KMS
105 Vocalist Microphone
Designed
with superlative vocal reproduction in mind, the KMS 105
brings Neumann quality to the demanding sound reinforcement
environment. With its super-cardioid polar pattern, low
self noise and colorless off-axis pickup, the KMS 105 complements
in-ear monitor systems. By employing a unique triple acoustic
filter, The KMS 105 minimizes popping and wind noise, and
with special mechanical and electrical filters, handling
noise is virtually eliminated. Because of the superior resolution
and linear high frequency response, it is very easy for
the artist using the KMS 105 to identify whether he or she
is "on mic".
Acoustical
features: When compared to other handheld vocal microphones,
the KMS 105 offers a superior resolution of the voice, with
extended frequency response and accurate transient detail.
Sibilance problems common to other handheld condenser mics
are eliminated. No foam is used in the basket, thus eliminating
any "clouding" or "muffling" of the
sound. Also, by using a studio grade DC-polarized condenser
capsule, all the nuances of the voice come through with
subtlety, power and focus.
The
K55 capsule was developed from the famous K50, found in
the KMS 150, KM 150 and KM 185 microphones. This new version
features a super-cardioid pattern, achieved by specially
modifying the response of the K50 pressure gradient transducer.
The frequency response characteristic is developed in the
acoustic realm, allowing for accurate representation of
transient details found in music and speech, and thus transmitting
a very "open" and detailed capture of the human
voice.

KMS
150 These are the ideal vocalist microphones. The
grille design significantly reduces pop and sibilance, and
the internal shock mounting reduces handling noise. The true
cardioid KMS 140 and hypercardioid KMS 150 both have a roll-off
switch to reduce proximity effect. With the attenuation switch
activated, the maximum SPL is an impressive 148dB.
The
KMS series is ruggedly constructed to handle the rigor of
stage performance. Tight polar control over the entire frequency
range significantly reduces sensitivity to acoustic feedback.

Double Distinction for Neumann at the 2004 TEC Awards
in San Francisco
Two Neumann microphones were distinguished at the Technical Excellence
and Creativity (TEC) Awards ceremony at this year’s AES Convention
in San Francisco: the contemporary TLM 127 and the legendary U
47.
Neumann U 47 inducted into the TECnology Hall of Fame
As an important milestone in the 125-year history of professional
audio, the Neumann U 47 has been inducted into the newly created
TECnology Hall of Fame.
The U 47, which appeared in the year 1949, introduced the pioneering
technology of switchable polar patterns, and was characterized
by a unique sound. While multipattern technology has now become
a standard feature in many microphones, the sound of this mic
remains legendary and is still highly prized today.
In the past, superstars such as Elvis Presley, Buddy Holly, Frank
Sinatra, the Beatles, Miles Davis and David Bowie used the U 47
repeatedly during the course of their careers. For the proud owners
of a well-preserved U 47, this mic remains a top favorite even
today, and is used in numerous contemporary productions, for instance
by Lenny Kravitz and Robbie Williams.
Neumann TLM 127 receives 2004 Microphone
Technology / Studio TEC Award
Simultaneously, the TLM 127 large-diaphragm mic introduced last
year succeeded against strong competition in the studio microphone
category. Over the 20-year history of the TEC Awards, the TLM
127 is the seventh Neumann microphone to receive one of these
coveted awards for technical excellence and creativity.
“The 2004 TEC Award confirms the results of numerous test reports
in recent months. With the development of the TLM 127, Neumann
has succeeded in bridging the gap between the TLM 103 and the
classic U 87, with an innovative new product that meets customer
sound expectations over a wide range of applications. The simultaneous
induction of the U 47 into the TECnology Hall of Fame clearly
documents Neumann’s role over the decades as a leading manufacturer
of studio microphones,” comments Wolfgang Fraissinet, President
of Marketing/Sales at Neumann Berlin
M 149 Jubilee - Platinum Edition
In addition to numerous new product releases in the 75th anniversary
year of Neumann, the Berlin creator of fine microphones, there
is now an official "Jubilee Edition" for fans and collectors:
the M 149 Jubilee, top model in the area of tube technology and
recipient of several awards as a high-tech tool for professionals.
Not entirely coincidentally, the finish is reminiscent of that
of the classic U 47 of the 1950s. The headgrille and lower part
look chrome-plated, but in fact have a high-quality platinum finish.
The body has the well-known Neumann nickel finish. In addition,
the "75 Years" logo is engraved on the front, and all
of the microphones bear consecutive serial numbers of the limited
edition of 500.
The microphones are available as a complete mono or stereo set
with high-polish elastic suspensions and vintage power supply
units with hammer finish, in a high-quality aluminum case which
provides these treasures with excellent protection on the way
to work - for it would be a great pity to keep them simply as
ornaments in a display case. For years the technical specifications
and sound properties of the M 149 Tube have thrilled audio engineers
around the world.
If desired the case can be personalized with the name of the
proud owner and the microphone serial numbers, engraved on a special
metal plate.
"We are sure that this unique special edition will suit
the taste of many Neumann fans. Certainly it is not a stereo set
for everyone, but many people are looking for something exclusive,
and we would like to fulfill this wish in our anniversary year,"
explains Wolfgang Fraissinet, President Marketing/Sales at Neumann,
Berlin.
Metal Cases and Attractive Neumann Sets
In its 75th anniversary year, the Berlin microphone manufacturer
Neumann is offering several new products and product versions,
which will immediately round out its product selection.
Among these are complete mono and stereo sets (consisting of
microphones and elastic suspension) for many large-diaphragm microphones
such as the TLM 103, TLM 170, U 87 Ai and the new TLM 127. Each
set comes in a sturdy, high-quality aluminum case. In future,
these cases will be available for all current Neumann large-diaphragm
mics.
The new stereo sets with their attractive pricing cost appreciably
less than two individual systems. All stereo set microphones have
consecutive serial numbers.
The program is rounded out with stereo sets of "Series 180"
miniature microphones. Each set is housed in a fine-quality wooden
box.
Wolfgang Fraissinet, President of Marketing/Sales, states, "With
these sets Neumann is responding to numerous customer requests
in the international market. Here we demonstrate once again that
Neumann responds to customer requests and requirements with comprehensive
market-oriented solutions."

Successful Start for Neumann Broadcast Line
The first model in the Neumann Broadcast line, the BCM 104, has
now successfully passed the test of practical implementation in
various broadcast studios. Its acoustic and electrical properties,
and the completely new design, developed with the aid of 3D simulations,
have met with a very positive response.
After a short test, several broadcast stations spontaneously
decided to continue broadcasting with the BCM 104 for a few days,
and to equip facilities for several announcers permanently with
this mic.
"We were in great suspense concerning the first practical
implementation and are naturally pleased that this completely
novel compact construction, with integrated isolation from structure-borne
noise and built-in pop screen directly in front of the capsule,
meets the requirements of users," reports Stephan Peus, General
Manager of Development at Neumann, Berlin.
The Broadcast line will be expanded later this year with the
BCM 705. This will be a first in the 75-year history of the Neumann
company, since the BCM 705 will be equipped with a dynamic capsule.
Wolfgang Fraissinet, President Marketing/Sales at Neumann Berlin
explains, "This is yet another innovation introduced by Neumann.
The dynamic BCM 705 will cost considerably less than the BCM 104
condenser version, and will thus address the problem of the enormous
cost pressure of equipping facilities for many announcers. However
the new model will preserve all of the features typical of the
Neumann Broadcast line, such as the simple exchange of microphone
headgrilles for different announcers using the same microphone,
and the integrated features for the suppression of interference
noise."

Neumann Solution-D in Production, for PC and Mac
"It took a little longer than originally planned,"
says Wolfgang Fraissinet, President Marketing/Sales at Neumann,
Berlin, "but with the development of the Solution-D system
Neumann is breaking new technological ground, assuming a pioneering
role in the audio world and paving the way for future developments.
This type of fundamental research takes time."
Now the dream has become a reality: The first genuine production
models of the Solution-D are being delivered worldwide. At the
same time, the Solution-D software has been expanded so that it
is compatible with the importantMac OS 9/OS X platform, thus making
digital Neumann technology available to all users in professional
audio studios.
"We see the Solution-D D 01 microphone as the first step
in this basic technology. Additional products will follow, and
as always we will keep our ears open to the market and will listen
carefully to our customers," promises Stephan Peus, President
and Director of Development at Neumann.
The few systems already in use worldwide, which are in fact preproduction
models, have been greeted enthusiastically in the professional
world. For instance, Solution-D technology has already been used
in the production of the soundtracks of "Matrix Reloaded,"
"Lord of the Rings" and "Terminator 3."
